Sirius/XM to start charging an additional $2.99 for internet streaming

(in Uncategorized on 2009/01/31)

I spend more time listening to the online stream than I do listening anywhere else, but being slapped with what amounts to a 30% increase is pretty ridiculous. Foregoing the online stream, or the service altogether, really only amounts to a several hour delay as the shows I care about are readily available through both paid and illicit sources.

Paul E. Johnson is a god among men

(in Uncategorized on 2009/01/27)

A few weeks ago, i searched long and far for a solution to some repaint/lag issues using compiz/metacity + an nvidia video card on my new t61p. Ultimately, I struck out.

Today, I was stumbling around trying to find info on controlling the nvidia power management from the command line, and I found this:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-users/2008-November/166660.html

$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia
options nvidia NVreg_RegistryDwords=”PerfLevelSrc=0×2222″
options nvidia NVreg_Mobile=1

And my tabbed terminals aren’t “sticking” anymore!

Unfortunately, none of the Paul E Johnson’s on Amazon Wishlists had their addresses listed — and I couldn’t be sure the one with the ample list of items. So hats off to you, Paul!

He said he reached to try to stop Det. Freeman and he was pushed against a soft drink machine and to the floor. He said the officer then hovered over him as he lay on the floor.

A police report says a customer then told Det. Freeman, “You can’t push down an old man” and began struggling with him. It says Det. Freeman then shoved that man, Gholom Ghassedi, through a glass door. Officers found Mr. Ghassedi with blood on his neck, but he declined medical treatment.
Sgt. McPherson broke up the fight between Det. Freeman and Mr. Ghassedi.

Joel on middle management

(in Uncategorized on 2009/01/03)

http://www.joelonsoftware.com/items/2009/01/02b.html

Here’s a tip from someone who has read thousands of resumes. When you’re applying to a startup, or a software company with less than, say, 100 employees, you may want to highlight the Banging Out Code parts of your experience, while deemphasizing the Middle Management parts of your experience.

If you’ve been in a large company for too long, you may feel that you put in your time, with all those years working your way up the hierarchy from the $50,000 coder jobs to the $250,000 Senior Vice President in Charge of Long Meetings With Other Senior Vice Presidents, and you’re kind of enjoying the nice parking space and the personal assistant and stuff, and coding? not so much, so now you’ve found a cool startup or small company, and you’re thinking, maybe now’s the time to jump ship? So you send your resume with your ERP stuff and SAP stuff and Vice President stuff to the startup, and it gets tossed.
