Cameron Diaz is Offensize

Cameron Diaz offended the entire country of Peru during her recent visit to the Inca city of Machu Picchu, where she was photographed wearing a green bag printed with a red star and the words “Serve the people”, the most famous slogan of the Chinese communist leader, Mao Tse-Tung. During the 80s and 90s, The Communist Party of Peru, better known as the the Maoist terrorist organization, Shining Path, led an insurgency that left more than 70,000 Peruvians dead. Slam Dunk for John Roberts on desegregation case

Supreme Court Rejects School Race Plans

Somebody fucking gets it.

The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected integration plans in two major public school districts but left the door open for using race to assign students in limited circumstances.

The decision in cases affecting schools in Louisville, Ky., and Seattle could imperil similar plans in hundreds of districts nationwide, and it further restricts how public school systems may attain racial diversity.

The court split, 5-4, with Chief Justice John Roberts announcing the court’s judgment. The court’s four liberal justices dissented.

“The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race,” Roberts said.

Rippy for President — can your candidate choke-out a bobcat?

(in General on 2007/06/26)

Bobcat strangled by Florida man it attacked

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. — Dale Rippy says he was acting on instinct when a rabid 25-pound bobcat attacked him on his porch in this Central Florida town.

Rippy, 62, endured the bobcat’s slashes and bites until it clawed into a position where he could grab it by the throat.

Then he strangled it.

Rippy said it was clear the crazed bobcat had to be stopped.

Diet Pepsi Max…

(in General on 2007/06/24)

Diet Pepsi Max is a new-to-the-USA pepsi variety that has two notable differences from regular Diet Pepsi

  1. Inclusion of Acesulfame Potassium

Aceulfame Potassium is essentially a splenda-workalike — no-calorie sweetener that can be used in cooking/baking. Pepsi has included it in other non-US marketed colas, and in the US as a component of Pepsi One (where it replaced some of the sugar/HFCS)

  2. Twice the caffiene of regular Diet Pepsi
  3. Pepsi Max has 69mg/12oz. For frame of reference, energy drinks hover around 75-80 and regular sodas around 40-50. http://wilstar.com/caffeine.htm

No longer blocking links to /pictures/…

(in Internet on 2007/06/23)

I used to have a set of mod_rewrite rules that returned my favicon (the ‘C’) when someone linked to one of my pictures from something other then a select few places — I was seeing lots of bandwidth from the most retarded phpbb-style forums.

While it’s funny to click-through some of the referrers and see links to lmaonade.gif or reminder.jpg that just show the ‘C’ instead, I’ve now disabled the rule.

On Ain’t It Cool News, a man claiming to be Bruce Willis began posting comments to an article about Die Hard 4. No one believed it was him. So he let one movie nerd iChat with him. Picture to right; understanding of why he’d ever bother reading AICN in the first place not to be found.

Georgia statutory rape case

(in General on 2007/06/12)

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=10972703

You’ve probably heard about this story, where a 17 y/o has spent 2 years in jail for having oral sex with a “consenting” 15 y/o. A lot of people are calling the conviction preposterous, and agree

However… the crux of the matter is whether it’s reasonable to say a 15 y/o can consent to sex. This does not appear to depend on the age of the other party. Secondly, the act was videotaped (by whom?) which is also a little fishy.

But I digress.

The real reason for my post is this — when the family of the 17 y/o hired the lawyer, did they look in the white pages instead of the yellow pages?

B.J. Bernstein, Wilson’s attorney, talks about the case and her client’s reaction to the appeal.
