Too many Jews on Holocaust council

Former President Jimmy Carter once complained there were “too many Jews” on the government’s Holocaust Memorial Council, Monroe Freedman, the council’s former executive director, told WND in an exclusive interview.

Freedman, who served on the council during Carter’s term as president, also revealed a noted Holocaust scholar who was a Presbyterian Christian was rejected from the council’s board by Carter’s office because the scholar’s name “sounded too Jewish.”

Copilot is a simple point-and-click desktop sharing web application that uses intermediate servers to get around firewall issues. Great for helping someone fix a computer that doesn’t require RDP/VNC install/config/firewall-hole-punch

Disabling display / backlight on t60p

(in General on 2007/01/26)

Out of the box my debian system doesn’t kill the backlight on my t60p using the familiar Fn-F3 key combination, because
the ibm-acpi script responding to that key (/etc/acpi/thinkpad-lockorbattery.sh) has some retarded logic about detecting which thinkpads use that key for different purposes.

Once you gut all the conditionals in that script, it will successfully use xscreensaver to blank the display and turn off the backlight (which boils down to xset dpms force off)

An additional thing I’m doing diff on my t60 is no longer running cpufreqd and managing power consumption via the /etc/acpi/battery.d and /etc/acpi/ac.d directories. For the time being I am setting the cpufreq governor to powersave and dropping display brightness in addition to whatever ACPI is doing on its own

Scientist develops caffeinated doughnuts

URHAM. N.C. - That cup of coffee just not getting it done anymore? How about a Buzz Donut or a Buzzed Bagel? That’s what Doctor Robert Bohannon, a Durham, North Carolina, molecular scientist, has come up with. Bohannon says he’s developed a way to add caffeine to baked goods, without the bitter taste of caffeine. Each piece of pastry is the equivalent of about two cups of coffee.

While the product is not on the market yet, Bohannon has approached some heavyweight companies, including Krispy Kreme, Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks about carrying it

Official: Sex offender passed for months

PHOENIX — A convicted sex offender attended at least two Arizona middle schools, sat through seventh-grade courses and turned in homework as he moved around the state pretending to be 12 years old, officials say.

Authorities in Yavapai County have accused Neil Havens Rodreick II, who is really 29, of assaulting a girl. They are not releasing details.

Rodreick was arrested last week after spending a day at the Mingus Springs Charter School in Chino Valley, about 90 miles northwest of Phoenix. School officials there called police after they checked what they called a phony birth certificate and other admissions documents.

He has been charged with misdemeanor assault — the assault on the girl — conspiracy to commit fraud, conspiracy to commit forgery, failing to register as a sex offender, and possession of a forgery device. He remains in the Yavapai County jail.

The sheriff’s office there said Neil Havens Rodreick II conned two men he was living with and having sex with into believing he was a young boy. One of them, 61-year-old Lonnie Stiffler, called himself Rodreick’s grandfather when he tried to enroll him at Mingus Springs as “Casey Price.”

Skiing with Justice

(in General on 2007/01/22)

Every morning, I let Justice outside to play in the backyard while I’m getting ready for work. I walk her out front really quickly to get her paws clean in the much less trafficed grass on the street.

Because it was cold, I brought her in early today before I was dressed for work and still had slippers on — as soon as I brought her out front a little girl came out from behind some cars w/ a german shepherd and Justice went nuts.

I initially was able to hold my ground and only stumbled, but Justice charged a second time and brought me down. She dragged me over this stupid brick trim thing and I busted up my foot :/
