O.J. Simpson: If I Did It, Here’s How It Happened

A Fox Shocker: In Depth With O.J. Simpson for A Ratings Boost

“If I Did It” is also the title of the former pro football player’s new book that, Fox said yesterday, hits bookstores Nov. 30 — just in time for the holiday gift-buying season, ho, ho, ho. And who wouldn’t love to find a copy of O.J.’s sordid sort-of hypothetical confession in his Christmas stocking on the morning of the day in which we celebrate the birth of baby Jesus?

Arguments are printed in symbolic form with a passion.

On Linux, exciting as it would be, tracing the init process is forbidden.

Roosevelt Island trash

(in General on 2006/11/15)

Roosevelt Island has one of the worlds few Automated Vacuum Collection systems.

The Automated Vacuum Collection (AVAC) system, also called “pneumatic refuse collection”, transports waste at high speeds through underground tunnels to a building where it is compacted, sealed in containers and then carted away.

One of many WTFs in my head while reading the Roosevelt Island article above.

bash and sockets

(in General on 2006/11/12)

Did you know bash does some magic when you try to redirect to [code]/dev/tcp/host/port?

Bash handles several filenames specially when they are used in redirections, as described in the following table:
/dev/tcp/host/port
If host is a valid hostname or Internet address, and port is an integer port number or service name, bash attempts to open a TCP connection to the corresponding socket.

As in:

#!/bin/bash
(
    printf "GET / HTTP/1.0\r\n\r\n" >&3
    cat < &3
) 3<>/dev/tcp/google.com/80

Support for this is disabled in the debian packaged version of bash.
