Ever get the feeling that the guy in the next cube is wrestling his desk drawers, and losing?

Why can’t we pipe all that noise into the restrooms?

Dispatcher: Ma’am, we’re not gonna go down there and enforce your Western Bacon Cheeseburger.

Woman: Well . . . that is . . . that . . . you’re supposed to be here to protect me.

Dispatcher: Well, what are we protecting you from, a wrong cheeseburger?

$6.16

(in General on 2005/03/29)

My new HDTV + tax + warranty exceeded my variable pay by… $6.16.

Surely a sign that I was supposed to purchase this TV and watch Miss Hawaiian Tropic International United States Pageant 2003 in High Definition on HDNET.

Opening the door

(in General on 2005/03/29)

What’s the bigger inconvenience:

A) Opening a door for yourself

B) Worrying about whether the schmuck in front of you is going to hold the door open for you and making sure you thank him in the proper tone.

I prefer the former, and I’d like to extend that courtesy to all the nameless people that work in my building. Maybe I should get a little business card with this message on it and hand it to people as I slam the door in their face. It would make for a good distraction as I make my getaway.

Ever forget to hold the door for someone and then try to walk really fast, partially to make a getaway and partially to make yourself feel better about how much it would have slowed you down?

Me neither.

BISHKEK. March 24 (Interfax) - Sources in Bishkek told Interfax that Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev, his family and his closest associates left Bishkek aboard a presidential helicopter on Thursday and headed for the border of Kazakhstan.

An unconfirmed report said the helicopter landed on Kazakh territory.

Earlier, Kazakh Foreign Ministry spokesman Ilyas Omarov told Interfax the ministry possessed no evidence that Akayev was on his way to Kazakhstan.

Akayev left the government headquarters in central Bishkek shortly before the building was seized on Thursday by the opposition. It was announced that the president had left for talks with the head of the Organization for Security and Cooperation mission to Kyrgyzstan.

Fun Fact from wikipedia

(in General on 2005/03/23)

Main article: Politics of Lebanon

Lebanon is a republic in which the three highest offices are reserved for members of specific religious groups:

* the President must be a Maronite Christian,
* the Prime Minister must be a Sunni Muslim, and
* the Speaker of the National Assembly must be a Shi’a Muslim.

This arrangement is part of the “National Pact” (al Mithaq al Watani), an unwritten agreement which was established in 1943 during meetings between Lebanon’s first president (a Maronite) and its first prime minister (a Sunni)

What raleigh needs…

(in General on 2005/03/22)

Is a real deli.

What does it take to succeed at something that? Loads of cash? Big iron balls?

Will people go out of their way to be waited on by a colorful person with a clue in their head? Will they go out of their way to buy meat that was actually spiced and cooked on site instead of having the shrink-wrap removed? Will they go out of their way for good produce? Or a bakery?

Sandwich shops seem to be able to survive selling to the RTP crowd only, will all the relocated yankees come out for quality food? You’d think a deli would at least be able to tread water…
